Countdown to Christmas. Day 1.

For the next few weeks, a daily prayer will be posted here in anticipation of the celebration of Christmas. I hope you'll join me in asking God to prepare our hearts to welcome His gift, Our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Father, as those of us who call you Lord come to the end of another day, we thank you for the blessing of life and the gift of salvation. Please forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us, and show us YOUR way, YOUR will, YOUR light and YOUR life for our weary souls.

We are too often confused, and you are not confusion's author. We are too often worried, and you have commanded that we "be anxious for nothing." We are too often hurried and loud, and you have told us to "be still and know." So forgive and cleanse, restore and renew. Give us rest and peace and wisdom.

Send awakening, revival and awareness to us so that we pray effective prayers that result in the release of YOUR power and YOUR spirit and YOUR glory. Hide us. Shine through us, in spite of us. We commit ourselves to You and to Your purpose as we approach with gladness the sacred season of the celebration of Jesus Christ's redemptive arrival -- and it is in His Holy name we offer our prayer. Amen.
